3 Surprising Realities of with Hard-of-Hearing.

I KNOW YOU CARE, BUT…

A big problem is communication. It is sometimes challenging to maintain a calm demeanor when you are struggling to make yourself understood. Normal con- versation can be difficult when someone keeps asking you to repeat yourself. We tend to raise our voice. This can be inter- preted as aggression, leading the hard of hearing feeling persecuted. Withdrawal and disconnection follow, isolating both parties and making caregiving a very stressful occupation.

OUR TIP: When you need to speak loudly or repeat yourself with someone who has hearing challenges, be patient and use a gentle touch or reassuring gesture while you’re talking. A warm look can also help them feel more comfortable.</span

WHATCH YOUR STEP / STEP BY STEP

Your loved one walks more hesitant- ly, losing trust in their ability to remain upright. This is a common occurrence in those with diminished hearing. If it is no longer possible to hear where your step lands, the brain receives no feedback and no information about the terrain bene- ath your feet is processed. This creates feelings of disorientation and insecurity and an inevitable loss of interest in social interaction.

THE RISK: Duis aute irure dolor in reprehen- derit in voluptate velit esse cillum dolore eu fugiat nulla pariaturut.

OUR TIP: For those with hearing difficulties, explain that sudden uncertainty while walking can be related to not hearing well. Understan- ding this helps them be more aware of where they step and what they walk on, and encou- rages them to pay more attention to their hearing.

USE IT OR LOOSE IT!

If we don‘t take care of our hearing health, our brain may not receive the proper or strong enough signals due to hearing loss. This can lead to the synapses in our brain not functioning correctly and gradually deteriorating, similar to how a muscle weakens when not used. Wai- ting too long to address this issue makes it harder to revive these synapses. This affects speech comprehension, cognitive abilities, and potentially lead to dementia.

OUR SOLUTION: Recommend that they try TRUE LISTENING APP and encourage them to engage in hearing training to maintain or improve their sense of hearing. Even if they are otherwise reluctant to address hearing issues, hearing training can help prevent more serious consequences. Plus, it’s a lot of fun—just 20 days, 20 minutes, 2 times a year!
